Sandbox chat and your data

Part of our privacy policy. Last updated: 12 October 2026

What the Sandbox chat is

On sandbox pages you can chat with an assistant that works the sandbox with you: it runs wargame turns, and it researches curricula using only material dated before the sandbox's clock. The replies come from Anthropic's Claude models, which Antistatic calls on its own account. Anthropic processes your messages to produce replies as our processor, under its commercial terms, which by default exclude training its models on them.

What we keep

For every chat we store:

  • your messages and the assistant's replies;
  • the tools it used, what it asked them and what they returned (sandbox questions, library results, turn results);
  • the sandbox, its simulated date when you wrote, the model you chose and when you wrote;
  • notes the assistant saved at your request: your reasons for a forecast, or which questions you think matter most.

We keep chats so you can reopen them. You can archive a thread at any time.

Training data for our models

Antistatic is building time-locked models: AIs that only know the world up to a chosen date, so we can test how well they forecast what actually happened next. Retrocasting (timeline) chats, in past sandboxes that replay a curriculum from a past date, are used as training data for them (supervised fine-tuning): your messages, the replies, the tools used and the sandbox's date become training examples. Wargame chats are never used for training.

  • We ask before your first retrocasting chat. The chat panel says this once and asks you to agree before you start; wargame chats need no agreement, since they're never used.
  • Linked to your forecasting record. Training examples are linked to your account's forecasting record in sandboxes and markets, so that the reasoning of better-calibrated forecasters can count for more. We don't publish your chats or your name with them.
  • You can withdraw at any time. On any plan, turn it off in your account settings. Withdrawing applies from then on: chats from while you'd agreed stay in our training data; later ones aren't used. On Free and Pro, retrocasting chat then pauses until you agree again (wargame chats carry on as usual). Supporters can keep chatting with training off.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your chats, or for them to be deleted, at any time: write to the privacy address in our privacy policy. The rest of our privacy policy, including how to complain to the ICO, applies as usual.
